Curled or Straight? BLUEPRINT. part II

Curled or straight?

What was Irie´s big mistake when fixing her hair?

Because of the lack of communication between the hairdressers at PK’s no one told Andrea that Irie had washed her hair. The scalp needs to have dirt for protection and since she had washed her hair there was no dirt to protect her scalp from the dangerous chemicals.

Why did the Indian girl’s eyes fill with tears?

Because of the small amount of money she got for cutting her long hair off and selling it to the salon. For most girls, including myself, our hair is precious and it takes a lot of time to grow it out and a lot of courage to cut it all off. The girl probably needed money and got angry with the price the fat woman in the sari gave her.

How much profit did the fat lady make on the hair that Irie bought?

She made a good bit of money on that transaction. She paid twenty-five pounds for the hair and sold it to Irie for three thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds.

What is the black woman so upset about?

She’s upset about the fact that women with African background doesn’t embrace their roots, that they try to change their ethnic background by dying, straightening and buying hair and also making their skin paler. She’s also frustrated by the fact that she and all the other black women can’t buy black hair products from black people.

What length and colour is the hair that Irie gets at Roshi’s Haircare?

The length when she bought it was six meters and the colour was black/red.  But obviously it’s shorter once it’s on her head, but the text doesn’t say exactly how long her hair was after it was applied to her own two inches of hair.

Eager to show off her new hair, Irie goes over to Millat, the guy she has a crush on. He is not there, but Alsana, Neena and Maxine notice Irie’s change in different reactions.

First Alsana thought that Irie had lost weight, but when Irie told her that she had a new haircut Alsana said that it looked very nice and complemented her new appearance saying that she looked like a newsreader.

Neena’s reaction was the opposite to Alsana’s. The first two things she said when Irie walked in to the lounge was “Bloody Hell!” and “What the fuck do you look like?” Then she just kept going saying that Irie looked like a freak and she started laughing hysterically.

Maxine’s reaction wasn’t at all as bad as Neena’s. She simply stated that Irie had beautiful and gorgeous hair before and seemed to think that Irie made a mistake when she put the straight hair in.

Curled or Straight? BLUEPRINT.

Curled or Straight?

Jackie and Denise don’t need to be as service-minded as ”white hairdressers”. Why not?

Because the women that come to the salon aren’t your regular customers, they are desperate to get their hair done because of the ideal and standards of the “White man”. The hairdressers don’t need to make tea, give their “customers” flattering comments or small-talk to get people to come to their salon. The women enter the salon on their own without encouragement, for they feel the need to change themselves to live up to the ideals of the “White man”.

Why are some of the customers at P.K.’s in pain?

Because of the horrible methods that the hairdressers need to use to be able to get the customers hair straight. They use hot combs, ammonia and even fire to straighten it. For example, when using ammonia the scalp needs dirt for protection against the powerful chemical.  The fact that you need to protect your scalp shows how dangerous the use of ammonia on your hair and scalp is. Hot combs and fire… I guess I don’t have to say anything about it, I think you can figure out the result for yourselves.

Self-evaluations on the music presentation

Positive things about my presentation on Sixx: A.M. and the song called Girl With Golden Eyes; I think that I managed to learn the presentation very well and I didn’t look as much on my notes as I usually do. And I think that the overall presentation with the PowerPoint went well, the song in the video worked and I didn’t skip or jump too fast on to any of the other pictures and what I had to say related to the pictures I had chosen to use in my presentation. I also think that even though it didn’t start out as well as it ought to have, I managed to overcome my nervousness towards the middle and the end of the presentation. It was a big relief to me after my presentation when Johanna S said that there’s no need for me to be nervous since she thinks that I speak good English.

The things that I can improve are definitely numerous. First of all I need to try and become more comfortable with presenting, even though it’s perfectly normal to become really nervous, I need to try and find a good balance. I also know, for a fact, that I tend to speak a bit too quickly when I get nervous and I need to keep that in mind and try to speak slower and maybe take a few pauses. I think that I practiced a lot on my presentation, but maybe I could’ve just gone over it one more time to make sure that I felt a bit more confident that I would manage to do the presentation without any notes at all, like Alice and Linnea did. They did a great presentation. It looks more professional and you come off as being more prepared and confident when you don’t have any notes.

FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON

English notes on FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON

p.149

1.       Compare the two female characters, Alice and Fay.

2.       Comment on the fact that Charlie seems to be in favour of polygamy.

Alice and Fay are two very different characters in the book, both being females but complete opposites. While Fay is very open and unashamed of everything, Alice is shy and reserved. Fay is very easy to understand and spend time with and Alice is a bit more complicated and a harder nut to crack. It’s harder to get into her mind and understand her thoughts, while Fay is very open minded and easier to understand. Although Fay is an artist and some things she says can be harder to understand than the things that Alice says, because of the fact that she’s got an artistic view of things. While Alice works at the center for retarded adults, Fay is unemployed and spends her days painting pictures. Alice is more of a thinker while Fay is more spontaneous, Alice likes to think things through and Fay likes to just do things without thinking much about consequences. It’s not just differences in personalities between the two, there’s also a big difference in appearances. Alice has got brown hair and soft pigeon eyes while Fay is a blonde with blue eyes. Alice seems to be more mature than Fay, and her relationship seems to be on another level with Charlie, it’s also more mature, than the relationship between Fay and Charlie. The relationship between Fay and Charlie seems to be more like friends with benefits, even though they seem to care a lot for each other.  They also affect Charlie in different ways; with Alice he seems to be more nervous and shy and with Fay it seems like he doesn’t get those nervous feelings, and he doesn’t care about the fact that the old Charlie is watching. When he was with Alice he started to feel weird and ashamed, the old Charlie affected him more. The fact that Alice was his teacher for such a long time seems to have a great influence on how he feels when he sees the old-Charlie while he’s with Alice.

Charlie is seeing two females at the same time and can’t see anything wrong with what he’s doing. He’s been dating Alice and at the same time he’s been dating Fay. It’s obvious that he doesn’t want them to meet each other or know about the fact that he’s seeing both of them and he seems to understand that they would not like it, but he still wants both of them and that’s why he won’t let them know anything. All facts show that Charlie seems to be in favour of polygamy since he’s dating more than one at the same time.

Huvudpersoner:

·         Neil Perry – utåtriktad, trevlig, ledartyp

·         Todd Anderson- Blyg

·         John Keating- egensinnig, positiv,

·         Knox Overstreet- lugn

·         Charlie ”Nuwanda” Dalton- busig, tjejtjusare

·         Steven Meeks-

·         Richard Cameron-

Vattnet forsade in i mina fotspår och sköljde bort dem

tre steg framåt

tre steg bakåt

den lena blöta sanden

imellan mina tår

mina fotspår i sanden

är mina minnen med dig

vattnet som forsar in i dem

är mina bortspolade tider med dig

c) Sprickorna i asfalten påminde mig om sprickorna i dig

sprickorna i asfalten

som jag föll för

sprickorna i asfalten

är som sprickorna från spegeln

sprickorna i dig

men älskade etanolbilar
Detta går ju faktiskt att förena

Limerick

men älskade etanolbilar
Detta går ju faktiskt att förena
